Box Breathing and Comfort

Last month I wrote about how taking a little time to plan the next day or week can do wonders, reducing your to-do-related stress, and in turn increasing your comfort level. This month we're going inside, literally, and talking about the magic of box breathing. Box breathing is a simple but powerful relaxation technique that can help you calm down and focus in a stressful situation. It's also known as square breathing or 4-4-4 breathing.
Here's how it works
- Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
- Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose for a count of 4.
- Hold your breath for a count of 4.
- Exhale slowly and completely through your mouth for a count of 4.
- Repeat steps 2 to 4 for 3 to 5 minutes.
Box breathing is a great way to calm down and center yourself in any situation. It's easy to learn and can be done anywhere, anytime. So next time you're feeling stressed or anxious, give box breathing a try. You might be surprised at how effective it is.
Shoutout to my friend Ajay, who first introduced me to this incredible concept during the pandemic. You can learn more about Ajay's company, TheraStretch, and even book a virtual appointment with him here.
Are YOU a Comfort Coach?
This past April Fools' we did a fun campaign that was always intended to be more than just a joke.
The inspiration actually came from a former student of mine who asked in class one day,
Will you ever offer comfort services for your customers?
I loved the question, and realized we had a great opportunity. There is no shortage of certifications in the world these days, so we wanted to have a little fun with this concept and certify anyone who joins the Swoveralls family.
In other words, you're a comfort coach if you have a pair of Swoveralls, plain and simple.
But you can still join the Comfort Club if you're not yet a Swoveralls customer, but are loving the comfy vibe. We have different tiers of comfort coaches which you can learn more about here.
ChatGPT's Thoughts on Swoveralls
Inspired by my Dad (thanks Dad) we wanted to see what ChatGPT had to say about Swoveralls. Enjoy.

I don't know what's more surprising: that ChatGPT's knowledge base only goes until 2021, or that it thinks Swoveralls are just a trend. Based on this response, we're confident the robot revolution will not be happening anytime soon :)

📚 On Kyle's Nightstand: Clan of the Cave Bear
Written in 1980 and set 18,000 years ago during prehistoric ice age times, I just felt compelled to share this book because I really really liked it. I won't get into the details, but if you're looking for a low key and fun novel about our ancestors, definitely check this out. This book is the first in a series of 6, and like a lot of series, the first book just hits different. I'm on book #3 now and now feel like I must get through all of them (ha).
🤓 Comfy Numbers
- 145 - the number of Polartec preorders we received in our most recent Comfy Lab campaign
- 30 - the number of plastic water bottles diverted from the landfill and used in the making of each pair of Polartec Swoveralls
- 800 BCE - estimate of ancient Hindu texts that reference box breathing
PS: Have any comfort recommendations you'd like to share? Feel free to reply here and let me know. I'd be happy to include it in a future newsletter and of course give ya a shoutout.
