Sweatpant Overalls and Sensory Sensitivities: What Our Customers Tell Us
Share
Some people with sensory sensitivities, including autistic adults and parents of autistic kids, tell us Swoveralls are comfortable enough to wear all day. The reasons they give are specific: no waistband, soft stretchy fabric, and a loose fit with nothing pressing anywhere. This post collects what those customers have said, in their own words. It is not medical advice, and Swoveralls are not a treatment for anything.
Why we're writing this
Swoveralls started because our founder, Kyle Bergman, wanted sweatpant overalls and they didn't exist. Sensory needs were not part of the original plan, but over the years a steady stream of reviews and messages has come in from people who wear Swoveralls because of how they feel, not only how they look.
"It was never my intention when starting out to specifically address challenges folks had in the sensory space, but it's been a humbling and welcome surprise that Swoveralls provide a real solution for so many."
Kyle Bergman, founder of Swoveralls
What customers with sensory sensitivities say
We read through all 2,561 reviews on our site as of October 2026. Twelve mention sensory issues, autism, or being on the spectrum directly, and many more talk about waistbands, seams, and fabric texture. A few of the clearest, all from verified buyers:
"I have a lot of sensory issues and these are perfect for me - nice breathable fabric, nothing tight anywhere and still so practical."
Verified buyer, Swoveralls in Color Riot, August 2026
"I LOVE overalls, but being Autistic, rigid or abrasive fabrics totally drive my brain crazy! ... They are SO soft and comfortable, I could actually SLEEP in them!"
Verified buyer, Swoveralls in Dino Navy, May 2025
"I am on the spectrum and have sensory issues but these sweet mamajammas are the best thing since sliced bread."
Verified buyer, Swoveralls in Forest Green, April 2023
"I am on the spectrum and have real issues with clothing. Nothing can be tight. So I end up wearing clothing that is one to two sizes larger just so I can feel comfortable. With swoveralls I actually had to size down."
Verified buyer, Swovie Shorts in Forest Green, July 2026
"And they are unbelievably comfortable, and are ideal for those of which who have sensory issues and sensitivities."
Verified buyer, Swoveralls in Dino Navy, May 2026
What parents and families say
Families shopping for autistic kids and teens bring up tags, fabric, and a place to keep important things secure.
"Purchase for my nephew with autism. No tags to bother him and comfy fabric. Sister loves putting his angel tag in the inside pocket ( GPS tracker) and the cuffed ankles are great for growing teens."
Verified buyer, Swoveralls in Navy, November 2025
That inside pocket is the hidden zip pocket in the bib. It sits on the inside of the overalls rather than on the outside, which is why families use it for things they don't want fiddled with or lost.
The features people point to
| What customers mention | The product detail behind it |
|---|---|
| Nothing pressing on the waist | No waistband. Swoveralls hang from adjustable straps. |
| Soft, non-scratchy fabric | Sweatpant fabric with stretch. Most Swoveralls are made with 95% GOTS-certified organic cotton and 5% spandex. Some styles use other blends, listed on each product page. |
| Nothing tight anywhere | A loose, unisex overall cut with jogger cuffs at the ankle. |
| A secure spot for small essentials | A hidden zip pocket inside the bib, plus five more pockets. |
| Pants that stay up | Overalls are held up by the straps, not by a waistband. |
Where Swoveralls may not work
They aren't right for everyone, and the reviews say so too. A recurring complaint in reviews is fit: the unisex cut doesn't suit every body. One verified buyer who bought them for sensory reasons wrote:
"They are definitely comfy and have a nice assortment of pockets. Unfortunately the sizing feels very weird ... the pant length was very short on me and the crotch sits very low."
Verified buyer, Swoveralls in Midnight Black, April 2023
Fabric also varies by style. Corduroy, fleece, and other specialty styles feel different from our core sweatpant fabric. If texture matters a lot, start with a core style and check each product page for the fabric details.

- Youth Swoveralls are available for kids.
FAQ
Are Swoveralls good for people with sensory sensitivities?
Many customers who describe themselves as having sensory issues say they are, mainly because there is no waistband, the fabric is soft and stretchy, and the fit is loose. Others have found the fit didn't work for their body. We share what customers report and make no medical claims.
Do Swoveralls have tags?
Swoveralls have one tag, located on the right hip/side area. Customers buying for autistic family members have said it was not an issue for them. Questions about labels or fabric can go to hello@swoveralls.com before ordering.
Do Swoveralls come in kids' sizes?
Yes. Youth Swoveralls come in kids' sizes 4/5 to 12/13, sold alongside the adult sizes, which run XS to 4XL in core colors.
What if they don't work out?
Size and color exchanges are free, one exchange request per item per order, and most products have a 365-day return window. Sale and Mystery items are final sale.
